Intro to Film Scanning and Color Correction

Sunday 9/8 12-4pm

This 4 hour class will cover the skills needed to maximize your film scans and color correct your files using Lightroom and Photoshop. Participants must bring rolls or sleeved film to scan. You will have the opportunity to scan your film and go home with high res files.

Scanners used will be an Imacon 949, Noritsu LS-600, and Canon 9000F Flatbed.

Topics we will discuss:

  • Types of Scanners and their pros and cons.

  • Color Correcting Using Curves and Channels in LR and PS.

  • Scanning using RGB Values and not what you see.

  • How to make a Digital Contact Sheet.

  • Dust-reduction technologies.

  • Scanning resolution.

  • Color depth.

  • Dynamic Range.
