Mark Anthony Beckenbach is from West New York and Teaneck, New Jersey. While his father is from Germany, Mark's mother and her family grew up in the Italian neighborhood of manhattan's west village. Whether it was the skyline that decorated the background of the basketball courts he played in as a kid, or it was the 90s era of hip hop and weed spots in Harlem and The Bronx, New York City has always been in Mark's life. Mark moved to the city in 2006 began taking photography seriously around 2007, hoping to preserve fleeting feelings of a city that already had undergone a major metamorphosis (see Giuliani and 42nd Street for examples). Mark's photography centers on the idea that what is most alluring sometimes carries with it a sense of mystery and his work invites the viewer's imagination to become engaged in what he photographs.
